Sveti Jakob Hike - April 2025

Green hills, lush forest, and a church beautifully perched on top of a hill. All of this not far from Ljubljana and easy enough for even the youngest hikers. This checked all our boxes so we set off for this hike on a Saturday morning. The weather was great, the views beautiful, and my 4 year old son had a great time.

Parking

Free roadside parking is available in a few places along the road between Sora and Trnovec. The gravel path across the road is the starting point of this hike to the Church of Saint James.

Up through the fields

The first part of the hike is a combination of gravel roads and dirt and rocky paths.

Up through the forest

Here the route leads into the forest, slowly taking us higher up the hillside. A fallen tree gave us a place to sit down and have a quick snack.

Out of the forest, over the hills

We emerge from the forest and continue over the hills to the church of Saint James.

The way back down

The GPX route I had planned and the marked path were slightly different which resulted in us going off course a couple of time. But with such a pretty surrounding we didn't really care.
