This is the first post on PlainSocial.eu, an attempt at a sovereign social media platform that is free from ads and algorithms, while providing users anonymity and privacy.

Sovereign? Sovereign in the sense that it answers only to its community and the law. No censorship by advertisers, payment providers, sponsors, or other third parties.

No ads and algorithms? You won't see any traditional ads or sponsored content artificially pushed to the top of your timeline.

Providing this platform costs money and without ads, algorithms and sponsors, that money has to come from somewhere else. A pay-as-you-go system that charges based on usage is the most viable option that doesn't compromise the goals of this platform. For moderate usage, this amounts to less than 5 euros per year.

Anonymity? You don't sign up with your email address or phone number. Instead PlainSocial.eu uses WebUnits.eu for authentication and payments. WebUnits.eu is a standalone cryptocurrency that supports anonymous accounts and acquisition of funds. Both PlainSocial.eu and WebUnits.eu are only just getting started and have very few users which unfortunately means anonymity is currently severely limited.

Privacy? You can create groups of users and post to them, with verifiable end-to-end encryption. Perfect for sharing things with just your friends or family.
